According to reports in Italy, Kevin Strootman is set to leave Olympique Marseille to sign for Genoa on loan.

The midfielder barely plays for Marseille and it is no secret that they would like to get the Dutchman off their wage bill.

According to Sky Sports Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Strootman is close to a deal to join Genoa. It will be initially a loan with no permanent clause included. However, the two clubs could discuss whether to make it permanent in the summer.

Back in Italy, Strootman will get the chance of playing time that could earn him his place back in the Netherlands squad.

After playing for Sparta Rotterdam, Utrecht, and PSV Eindhoven, Strootman spent five years in Italy playing for AS Roma before he joined Marseille in 2018.
