The newspaper is reporting that the Premier League club have contacted Ajax and officially placed a bid for the centre back, but doesn’t state whether that offer has been accepted or not.
Van der Hoorn has been on the sidelines for Ajax since his move from Utrecht in 2013, but injuries to Kenny Tete and Jairo Riedewald towards the end of last season gave the 23-year-old his chance in the first team. The 23-year-old made 15 league appearances and was impressive in the centre of defence.
Van der Hoorn has a contract with Ajax until 2017 but has asked to leave the club this summer as he eyes consistent action. Ajax reportedly want €2.5 million to sell.
