The Ajax captain has been strongly linked with a move away from Amsterdam this summer with both Napoli and Everton reportedly two possible destinations. Speaking to Omnisport, Ajax great Sjaak Swart has advised Klaassen to avoid a move to Italy and thinks he would be a success in the Premier League.
Swart said, “Davy Klaassen only leaves if he can go to a really good club because he has a real Ajax heart.
“I think [he would cost] somewhere between €20-25million. If I was him I would not go to Italy. I think he is not suitable for that. [Dennis] Bergkamp and [Wim] Jonk played there in the past. Serie A is a very difficult league.
“I [would] rather see Davy Klaassen playing in England or Germany. Those are great countries where he can play.
“He can play for Arsenal and Liverpool. At this moment he would definitely succeed at Manchester United as well. So there are a lot of clubs suitable for Klaassen, also in Germany.”
He’s got a lot of quality and experience now, but Man United is still too big a step. For one thing he’s not going to get a ton of playing time there, for another the pressure at the larger English clubs is tremendous and can really hamper confidence for new players quickly if things turn south. Both those things can really impede progression just look at Jansen.
A move to a mid-table Premier league team or mid-high table Bundesliga side makes more sense.
Let’s not forget about Memphis Depay!
As a United fan I would love to see klassen at old tratford but I think it might be a step to high for him right now, go to Everton for a year or 2 and then see what happens!
