Dusan Tadic has called on his teammates to put their Champions League disappointment behind them and seal the Eredivisie title.

Ajax’s were seconds away from the Champions League final but a 96th minute winner gave Tottenham Hotspur a 3-2 win on Wednesday and put them through on away goals.

Speaking to Inside Ajax, Tadic said, “It is a big disappointment, but that is football and life. Sometimes things go wrong.

“I have to say that I am very proud of everyone. My colleagues, everyone in the club, the coaches, the fans, the board, everyone. Everyone lived for this. This was our dream. We deserved to be in the final. It should not be like this, but we can still look at ourselves in the mirror.”

Tadic wants his teammates to put it behind them and concentrate on lifting the Eredivisie title, “It is painful, but what I say, this is part of football. We have to go on and now we have to become champions of the Netherlands. At the start of the season, no one expected Ajax to be in the semi-final of the Champions League. We are a big club and always want more. We also feel that there was more to it. You just have to keep going.

“We have made a lot of people proud and everyone in Europe talked about Ajax. They continue to do so, because we have done great things. We have shown that we are currently one of the best teams in Europe.

“There are two more finals to go and we have to close the season well, because the fans and the club deserve that. “
