The former Heracles Almelo star has represented Netherlands twice at U21 level, but in a message through the KNVB website, Tannane has decided to follow his heart and represent Morocco.
Tannane said, “I feel both Dutch and Moroccan and I have played at Jong Oranje with a lot of pride.
“But at some point you have as a player to make a choice. Fred Grim has discussed this a lot with me and said that I can look forward to a fine international career in the Netherlands. But my heart goes out to Morocco. It’s a childhood dream to play football for the national team of Morocco. ”
Grim, who is coach of the U21’s, stated that he respected Tannane’s decision. “Osama has long doubted which country he wants to play for. Of course we would have preferred that he had opted for the Netherlands, so I told him that we believe in his talent. Eventually Oussama has indicated that he feels more pride in playing football for Morocco. That is a decision that we must respect. “
