After losing 1-0 to Liverpool in their opening group game, Ajax head to Italy for a clash with Atalanta Bergamo, who swept aside Midtjylland 4-0.
Speaking at his pre-game press conference, Ten Hag said on Tuesday’s opponents, “A very attractive team. Big compliment to the trainer. They built and selected this team. They have become very successful with almost the same selection. They did that extremely well. The transfers are in line with their philosophy and are based on their style of playing football. Apparently players can acclimatize well here.”
What is the key to beating Atalanta? Ten Hag thinks, “Take the initiative, as always. They play differently than Liverpool, so you have to find a different solution.”
Ten Hag doesn’t think a loss would be the end of Ajax’s Champions League campaign, “Sink or Swim? It’s the second game. You have to want to win every game and we expect a positive result. We still have to play football so it is pointless to talk about this. We assume that we win.”
