Ajax will face Premier League giants Liverpool, Atalanta Bergamo and Midtjylland in the Champions League group stages.
Ten Hag reacted to the group in his press conference, “It is a very tough, but challenging draw. It certainly could have been easier, but we’re not running away from this. After all, we know that only top teams are active in the Champions League.”
On Liverpool, Ten Hag said, “Liverpool is the gegenpressing machine for me, with a very direct style. It is a top team with top players, a great match to experience. It is wonderful to play against Liverpool. They are two clubs with a rich history and of course it would not have mattered if we had met each other in the final a year ago. I had to think about that when Liverpool came out of the tube.”
On Atalanta, “It is not without reason that they reached the quarter finals of the Champions League last season, they were the revelation of the tournament. Atalanta is a pressing machine, they play in a style that Dutch teams usually have difficulty with.”
Midtjylland is an unknown for Ten Hag, “Fortunately, we have two experts of Danish football on our staff. They will undoubtedly update me. I do know that they are now at the top in Denmark and that they have survived three preliminary rounds.”
