Ajax boss Erik ten Hag was delighted with captain Matthijs de Ligt and the rest of his team after they defeated Feyenoord 3-0 to reach the KNVB Cup final.

Ajax got revenge for the 6-2 hammering in De Kuip last month and booked their place in their first KNVB Cup final since 2014.

Ten Hag told Fox Sports, “I am very satisfied. The goal was to reach the final and of course we had to put something right, we have done that clearly. After a difficult initial phase, we have been in the game. I have to compliment the team on how it works.”

Feyenoord dominated the early stages and Ajax took the lead against the run of play just before the break. However, Ten Hag disagreed with a statement that his side won without playing well, “I have seen a lot of will and relentlessness. There really was a team. We also played quite well in the second half at stages.”

Ten Hag was also full of praise for captain Matthijs de Ligt, who scored on his 100th appearance for the club, “He was certainly my Man of the Match, also because he blocked Robin van Persie’s shot in the opening phase. In my view it is always a team performance, but the captain played as a leader today.”
