Ajax boss Erik ten Hag was relieved after his side’s 2-1 victory over PEC Zwolle which moved them back to within two points of PSV Eindhoven.

Ajax were far from their best on Wednesday night and needed a late Daley Blind winner to get a victory which keeps their title hopes alive.

Speaking to Fox Sports, Ten Hag said, “Yes, this was an ugly win.

“In the first half we didn’t play great, but we did have control. In the second half you see that we are losing control and not playing the game we know from our team. We didn’t get into the duels either. “

“We have learned from the duel with SC Heerenveen (4-4). If you want to become a champion, then you have to win this kind of ugly game. ”

Next up for Ajax is an away clash at AZ Alkmaar on Sunday.
