Ryan Gravenberch gave Ajax the lead in the 22nd minute and that proved to be the only goal of the game despite Feyenoord creating a number of chances.
After the game, Ten Hag told NOS, “The first phase was for Ajax. We were very convincing, very good on the ball, got a lot of chances and made a great goal. In the final phase of the first half, Feyenoord started to tap into a different tune, in the second half it was a struggle. I have to give my boys a big compliment, how they survived that. They fought for every metre and took the win.”
Ten Hag would not criticise his team’s performance, “Sometimes you have to win like that. Lucky? That last chance could have been achieved, but we should have made it 2-0 and ended the game. If I still have to criticize my team: we have to hunt more for the 2-0, then you make it much easier for yourself. And we had the opportunities for that.”
Ten Hag also rejected the claim that his side was not in control, “Weren’t we supreme? Yes!
“Certainly the first forty minutes. Yes, at one point it will become power football, but then we held our own against a strong Feyenoord. You may have forgotten the first half, we played well in it.”
