Erik ten Hag was taking charge of his first Manchester derby as United boss and he named Tyrell Malacia in his starting eleven. Nathan Ake was in the Manchester City defence.
The first half was a nightmare for Ten Hag as City had the lead after only eight minutes through Foden. By the break, it was 4-0 as Haaland netted twice before Foden got his second.
The United defence, which also had Lisandro Martinez in it, could not handle Pep Guardiola’s side and Ten Hag intervened with Malacia going off for Luke Shaw.
Former Ajax winger Antony pulled one back before the hour, but Haaland and Foden completed their hattricks to make it 6-1. Anthony Martial did score twice late on but they were nothing but consolations.
A humiliating afternoon for Ten Hag and his side, who are now 6th in the table. Ake and Manchester City is in second.
