French giants Olympique Lyon have completed the signing of Ajax right-back Kenny Tete.

Tete played second fiddle to Joel Veltman last season in Amsterdam and was certain to leave the club after failing to sign a new contract.

Galatasaray were heavily linked with the Dutch international two weeks ago and even agreed a fee with Ajax. However, Tete wasn’t interested in moving to Turkey and has now signed a five-year deal with Lyon, who have paid Ajax around €3 million.

Speaking at a press conference, Lyon head coach Bruno Genesio said, “At the beginning of the transfer window we had not targeted a right-back but it was a real opportunity.

“We jumped at this opportunity and we are very pleased to welcome Kenny, a young international player.

“We are convinced of the success of Kenny Tete at OL.”

Tete made his debut for Ajax in 2013 and made 55 appearances for the club, scoring once.
