Sander FischerSander Fischer has decided to join newly promoted Go Ahead Eagles with the twenty-seven-year-old defender signing on an initial two-year contract. Fischer leaves Excelsior, where he spent three and half years, to help add Eredivisie experience and leadership to the newly promoted Go Ahead Eagles squad.

The defender started thirty-four games for Excelsior this season, drawing interest from a number of clubs both in and outside the Netherlands. However, Fischer decided on Go Ahead Eagles after hearing about the project for the coming season.

Dennis Bekking, Technical Manager for Go Ahead Eagles, gave his thoughts on the transfer adding “Kevin Fischer is a guy that fits the club and that we need. We have had frequent contact with Sander and his agent. Despite other rivals in the field, Sander became interested in the story ‘Go Ahead Eagles’.”

Talking about his motivation to join Go Ahead Eagles, Fischer said “Go Ahead Eagles suits me. Nice field, nice stadium, fanatical supporters. The club wants to be a stable Eredivisie team. I think that’s certainly possible, I’m really eager to get started.”

Fischer had spells at NAC Breda, SC Cambuur, FC Emmen and AGOVV Apeldoorn before signing for Excelsior in 2013.
