The 28-year-old was sent on loan to Amsterdam in order to regain his fitness after spending the majority of last season sidelined with a cruciate knee-ligament injury, but the emergence of Andrea Onana has meant Krul has yet to make a first team appearance.
Ajax head coach Peter Bosz told NOS ” When the decision was made to loan (Tim) Krul, Onana was not the first goalkeeper, there were doubts whether he could do it all but has taken his chance.”
On the possibility of the Dutch international leaving Ajax Bosz responded “You never know in football, if a club comes for him and he wants to go … then he goes-there. I have to wait and see how that develops in the coming days.”
A sentiment echoed by Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez, “Tim is a top-class keeper who needed some time because he has been injured.” Benitez continued “But if someone is asking then we have to consider it because we sent him on loan with the idea for him to play.”
Krul was last capped by the Netherlands in 2015 and has yet to make a first-team appearance for Ajax this season.
