An exciting debut for the 19-year-old was difficult to build upon. Is Dennis van der Heijden ready for ADO Den Haag’s first team?

The former Feyenoord and Dordrecht youth player broke into ADO’s first team at the end of last season. He made a highly promising debut with two goals against Excelsior in a 4-2 away win after coming off the bench. In total, van der Heijden has nine appearances under his belt, but has yet to score since his immediate impact.

The 19-year-old was part of the Netherlands U19 squad that played at the European Championships this summer and scored in the 3-3 play-off draw against Germany.

Playing Style

The striker is tall and strong in aerial battles. As well as this, van der Heijden is a good finisher from the little we have seen of him. He’s very similar to his teammate Mike Havenaar, who is also a physical poacher and threatening in the air.

What can we expect from van der Heijden this season?

We should expect more appearances, especially from the bench, don’t expect van der Heijden to be a starter yet. He’ll be looking to displace Havenaar in the side, which will be even more difficult to do with new manager Zeljko Petrovic to impress as well.

Van der Heijden has three caps for the Netherlands under 19s, scoring once. He’ll be aiming to reach the under 21s with a better campaign this time round.
