Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Garcia had spells with local sides T&TEC and Central FC before impressing on a trial with AZ Alkmaar back in February 2015. AZ quickly held Garcia to a pre-contract agreement for three-years but the youngster wasn’t able to join up with his new side until his eighteenth birthday last November.
In January Garcia was handed his Eredivisie debut in a 4-1 win over Feyenoord and immediately impressed with his direct, attacking style. A week later he scored his first goal in a win over NEC, and went on to make a further seven appearances as AZ finished fourth.
Garcia already has four caps for the Trinidad and Tobago national team, scoring twice.
Style of play
Garcia is an explosively quick winger, with great dribbling skills and a powerful left foot. He loves running at his opponents, who are often left bamboozled by Garcia’s unpredictability and speed.
The 18-year-old spent most of his time on the left wing for AZ last season, but has played through the middle in the past and that could be an option for the club in the future.
What can we expect from Garcia this season?
The 18-year-old was an exciting addition to the Eredivisie last season and left AZ fans wanting more from their new talent. AZ will be aiming to challenge the top three and make an impression in Europe this season and Garcia will play a big part over the campaign.
Scouts are already flocking to AZ to watch Garcia in action and a successful season may see the winger follow in Vincent Janssen’s footsteps with a big money move abroad.
