After the defeat to rivals PEC Zwolle two weeks ago, Hans de Koning was sacked as Go Ahead coach and Robert Maaskant was appointed until the end of the season.
The new coaches task is to keep the Deventer side in the Eredivisie, but Go Ahead Eagles didn’t get off to a good start on Sunday with FC Twente taking a lead into half time. Enes Ünal netted after an excellent pass from Frederik Jensen.
However in the second half the game turned on its head thanks to Marcel Ritzmaier. Firstly on 54 minutes, Sam Hendriks converted Ritzmaier’s cross into the net to make it 1-1 before the Austrian midfielder fired a free kick into the net from 30 metres to give the away side a shock lead.
Chinedu Ede saw a late goal disallowed for offside as Go Ahead Eagles held on to claim a crucial win. With the three points Go Ahead Eagles climb off the bottom into 17th place, while FC Twente sit 7th.
