The first half in Enschede failed to excite, with Luuk de Jong’s shot which flew wide the closest either side came to an opening goal, while Luciano Narsingh saw a penalty shout waved away by Kevin Blom.
The game finally clicked into life on fifty minutes when De Jong finished off Jurgen Locadia’s cross, but the linesman flag denied the striker. However two minutes later De Jong did net against his former club, stooping down low to finish off Adam Maher’s cross.
Just like in the recent match against Excelsior, PSV went to sleep after scoring and Hakim Ziyech equalised on 58 minutes. The midfielder’s initial strike wasn’t held by Jeroen Zoet, and Ziyech followed up to steer the ball into the net.
The champions seemed to be heading for more dropped points but Jurgen Locadia came to the Eindhoven club’s rescue, firstly heading in Andres Guardado’s cross on 82 minutes before setting up Gaston Pereiro to fire in PSV’s third.
The win moves PSV to within a point of top spot, while Twente sit 13th.
