FC Twente have slipped into the bottom three after a 3-1 defeat to fellow strugglers Willem II in Enschede.

andersen willIts been a traumatic week in Enschede with last weeks 5-0 defeat to Feyenoord followed up by leaked contracts with investment company Doyen which not only caused president Aldo van der Laan to quit, but in the long run could result in serious punishment for the club.

Back on the pitch matters didn’t improve for Rene Hake’s side with Willem II taking a deserved lead on 16 minutes when Lucas Andersen beat Joel Drommel with a fierce strike, although the goalkeeper should have done much better at his near post. The on loan Ajax midfielder then doubled the lead five minutes later as his free-kick eluded everyone and nestled into the bottom corner.

Twente striker Jari Oosterwijk pulled one back for the home side on 37 minutes with a cool finish over Kostas Lamprou after being set up by Ede. However Andersen then completed his hat-trick before the break with an excellent run through the Twente defence before firing past Drommel.

In the second half Twente failed to mount a comeback, while Willem II remained dangerous on the counter attack but couldn’t add another goal.

The win lifts Willem II above Twente and into 15th, while the Enschede slips into the bottom three.
