tadic cTwente were clearly the more confident of the two sides, and created a number of chances to open the scoring in the first half. Dusan Tadic squandered the best opportunity as he could only blast at Piet Velthuizen after being played through on the right hand side of the box by Luc Castaignos.

Ten minutes into the second half Twente did finally open the scoring as Castaignos raced through on goal before slipping the ball past Velthuizen and into the bottom corner.

The chances of Vitesse getting back into the game were then torn apart five minutes later when left back Patrick van Aanholt was shown a red card for a late challenge on Tadic.

Tadic was once again the best player on the pitch for Twente, and the Serbian sealed the win on 78 minutes with a lob over Velthuizen after running onto Castaignos’s through ball.

Vitesse looked a shadow of the side that looked like title contenders only a month ago, and will slip eight points behind Ajax, should the champions win on Sunday. Twente move to within a point of the Amsterdam side.
