The Eredivisie returned on Friday with struggling FC Twente hammering high flyers Heracles Almelo 4-0.

ziyech twe herTwente’s winter break, like the rest of the season before, wasn’t short of turmoil with want-away midfielder Hakim Ziyech slamming the club in an interview and being stripped of the captaincy. No move has yet materialised for Ziyech, and although Rene Hake insisted he was being professional in training, doubts were cast on the Moroccan’s mentality heading into the game.

However all those doubts were washed away in the first half against Heracles as Ziyech inspired his side to a 2-0 lead at half time. Firstly the midfielder jinked into the box before seeing his strike rebounded into the path of Chinedu Ede, who finished calmly. Fifteen minutes later Ziyech then added the second himself with a toe poked finish into the bottom corner after a lovely run.

Without the departed Oussama Tannane, Heracles lacked bite up front, but Nick Marsman was tested by Wout Weghorst before the break in a rare attack from the visitors.

In the second half Twente sealed victory with Ede finishing off a cross from new captain Felipe Gutierrez before Hidde Ter Avest swept in a fourth soon after.

Ziyech was then taken off to an ovation and looked to be waving goodbye to the fans. Will he still be a Twente player by next weekend?

The win increases confidence, but Twente remain 16th, while Heracles will likely lose their 4th spot by the end of the weekend.
