FC Twente has confirmed the loan signing of Everton’s Dutch defender Nathangelo Markelo.

FC Twente has been linked with the 21-year-old for weeks but the deal had to wait until Markelo had went through a two week quarantine.

On Monday, Twente finally confirmed the defender’s signing on a season-long loan deal. Markelo then told the club’s website, “I recently renewed my contract with Everton, but there is no direct prospect of a place in the first team yet. The chance is greater at FC Twente and that is why it is good for me to play for FC Twente this year.”

Markelo has been with Everton since joining from Volendam back in 2017, but he has yet to make an official appearance for the first-team.

The full-back becomes FC Twente’s third loan signing after Vaclav Cerny (FC Utrecht) and Kik Pierie (Ajax).
