Ricky van Wolfswinkel’s 83rd-minute penalty was enough for FC Twente to come away from Sparta Rotterdam with a 1-0 victory.

The game in Rotterdam was not a spectacle with Tom Beugelsdijk’s header over the bar the closest either side came in a dull first half.

Wout Brama went close after the break with a shot from distance but it seemed that the game was heading for a 0-0 draw. Then in the 81st minute, VAR intervened after a tackle by Giorgios Masouras on Michel Vlap and awarded Twente a penalty. Ricky van Wolfswinkel made it 1-0.

There was even more good news for Twente after the goal with Vaclav Cerny making his first appearance of the season after recovering from a serious knee injury.

Twente’s victory moves them sixth while Sparta remains in 16th.
