Alfred Schreuder has become the first managerial casualty of the Eredivisie season after being sacked by FC Twente.

schreuder tweThe Enschede club find themselves in 16th place after four matches with only one point. Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to rivals Heracles Almelo appeared to be the final straw for the Twente board, and they announced on Sunday that Schreuder has been sacked.

Schreuder had officially been coach from the start of last season, but drew criticism from the fans after leading the club to a tenth place finish last season.

Twente president Aldo van der Laan told the club’s official website, “The board of FC Twente sees insufficient prospects for further cooperation with Alfred Schreuder. It is clear that the disappointing starts the season plays a decisive role. A difficult but unavoidable decision.”

Current assistant coach René Hake has taken over as temporary coach until a replacement is found.
