FC Twente have confirmed that they will file for bankruptcy if their relegation to the Eerste Divisie is confirmed next week.

twe stadiumThe money-troubled club lost their lawsuit against the KNVB as they looked to fight their relegation and are awaiting a decision from the appeals committee next week, which will either save them or confirm their place in the Eerste Divisie.

Twente owe millions to creditors, who have demanded their money back including Doyen and investors from England, and a spokesman for the club has confirmed that they will be forced to file for bankruptcy if they are relegated.

Marcel Wendrich stated, “The board has passed all scenarios with a chartered accountant. It shows in all the variations that there is a shortage of tens of millions if the club relegated. There remains nothing else than to file for bankruptcy. “
