After the departure of Andreas Bjelland to Brentford was confirmed on Thursday morning, FC Twente have reacted quickly to sign his replacement in Giorgos Katsikas. The 25-year-old comes on a free transfer after leaving PAOK Salonika, and signs a one-year-deal with the option of an extra season.
Katsikas started his career with Iraklis before joining PAOK in 2011. In Salonika the centre back made 40 league appearances, and was rumoured to be joining Olympiakos this summer, only for Twente to swoop.
Speaking to the official Twente website, Katsikas said, “I am very happy that I can make this great step; my first club abroad. The past few days I got a good impression of FC Twente. There is a nice atmosphere at the club and there are good facilities.”
