Sparta Rotterdam were the first Eredivisie side to show interest in the 24-year-old, but despite speaking to Maher on several occasions, Dick Advocaat confirmed on Saturday that the deal was dead.

Maher, whose contract with PSV expires at the end of the season, wants to remain in the Eredivisie until the summer, but didn’t see the move to Rotterdam as appealing. According to VI, both FC Twente and Utrecht are seriously interested in signing the former AZ Alkmaar star and are better options for the midfielder.

Maher is currently with the PSV first team in America for a training camp.
