RKC Waalwijk head into the winter break bottom of the table but with confidence after a 3-0 victory over an out of form FC Twente.

FC Twente headed for Waalwijk in a crisis with their last victory coming on November 10th. Earlier this week they crashed out of the KNVB Cup after a 5-2 loss at home to Go Ahead Eagles.

RKC started strongly and they took the lead in the 12th minute when Clint Leemans set up Anass Tahiri to fire the hosts in front. It could have been worse for Twente before the break, but Joel Drommel made an excellent save to deny Mario Bilante.

The visitors barely created anything and in the 47th minute, they fell 2-0 behind when a Stijn Spierings strike took a deflection and flew past a helpless Drommel.

On the hour mark, Spierings made it 3-0 with a fierce strike and from that point RKC eased to victory. Before the end, Calvin Verdonk confirmed Twente’s frustrations with a mindless red card.

RKC remains bottom heading into the winter break but they are now only five points from safety. Twente sit 12th and will need to use the winter to recover their form.
