After a first-leg 4-1 win in Poland, Ajax were expected to breeze through to the next round, but John Heitinga’s side fell behind in the 13th minute when Mateusz Zyro headed in a free kick.
Early in the second half, Legia Warsaw made it 2-0 through Piotr Cichocki and needed only one more goal to put Ajax out. However, the Amsterdammers held on, and could have made the evening more comfortable but Jurgen Ekkelenkamp hit the post.
Ajax now move onto the play-off stage. They will find out their opponents when the draw is made on the 11th of December.
