The home side were celebrating their 750th home game in the Eredivisie, but it was ADO Den Haag who had the first big chance as Michiel Kramer could only fire harmlessly over from a few yards out.
Utrecht looked dangerous down the flanks with both Tommy Oar and Kristoffer Peterson causing ADO Den Haag problems but their final balls could not be capitalised on by Rubio Rubin up front, while right back Mark van der Maarel also squandered two good chances.
ADO Den Haag striker Mike van Duinen forced Utrecht keeper Robbin Ruiter into a good save with a fierce effort from the edge of the box while at the other end Oar headed straight at Martin Hansen and Anouar Kali fired wide.
Neither side could find a breakthrough meaning Utrecht sit ninth with seven points from five games while ADO Den Haag have two points less and sit 13th.
