PSV Eindhoven maintained their four point lead at the top of the table after a comfortable 5-1 win over 10-man Utrecht.

DEPMAHPSVThe visitors simply had too much individual class for their opponents in the first half, with Adam Maher opening the scoring after only 12 minutes with a close range finish from Jetro Willems cross.

Utrecht were reduced to ten men on 23 minutes, as Mark van der Maarel was shown his second yellow card of the game for bringing down Luuk de Jong in the box. The spot kick was slotted in by Memphis Depay for the wingers 2nd goal in as many games. Two minutes later PSV had their third through Jorrit Hendrix, who’s first shot from the edge of the box was saved by Jeroen Verhoeven, but the midfielder fired in the rebound.

PSV were threatening to run riot before the break, and Memphis Depay was unlucky not to grab his 2nd with a stunning effort from his own half which clipped the top of Utrecht’s bar.

Utrecht pulled a goal back five minutes into the second half with Ruud Boymans beating Jeroen Zoet with a fantastic header, but any chance of a comeback was destroyed on 81 minutes as Christian Kum deflected Willems cross into his own net.

With the final play of the match PSV added a fifth, with Luciano Narsingh racing into the Utrecht half before threading Georginio Wijnaldum in on goal, and the returning midfielder slotted into the bottom corner.

Another commanding performance from Phillip Cocu’s side, and they remain four points ahead of Ajax, while Utrecht sit 12th.
