de ridder cADO Den Haag had the first real chance of the game on 15 minutes, when a Cabral corner caused mayhem in the Utrecht box, and Kramer saw his effort saved by Robbin Ruiter and the post.

However it was the home side who had the lead on 41 minutes, as Elroy Pappot’s cross was headed across goal by Yoshiaki Takagi into the path of Steve de Ridder, who nodded in from close range.

In stoppage time of the first half, Yassine Ayoub made it 2-0 to Utrecht, as a corner kick was not dealt with by ADO keeper Coutinho, and the ball squirmed to the midfielder at the back post, who had the easiest of tap ins.

Seven minutes into the second half, defender Kai Heerings made it 3-0 for Utrecht, with the tall centre back playing a one-two with Takagi before slotting the ball under Coutinho.

Mark van der Maarel was shown a harsh red card with 15 minutes left for a challenge on Alberg, and Utrecht had to finish the game with ten men.

ADO Den Haag could not take advantage of the extra man, with the post once again denying them a goal before the end, and Utrecht took all three points.

The win lifts Utrecht up to 12th, while ADO Den Haag sit in the bottom three in 16th.
