Bartholomew Ogbeche netted a brace in the 3-2 defeat in the cup to PSV midweek and the striker continued his good form to give the dominant visitors the lead on 26 minutes with a fierce header.
Utrecht, who were missing Sebastien Haller, improved after the break and found their leveler on 52 minutes with Willem Janssen netting after good work from Sean Klaiber.
Cambuur regained their lead through Ogbeche, who finished Martijn Barto’s ball at the far post before Sander van de Streek made it 3-1 shortly afterwards, and it seemed the Leeuwarden side were comfortably on their way to their first victory. However Nacer Barazite pulled one back for Utrecht on 72 minutes before Cambuur goalkeeper Harm Zeinstra was shown a straight red card for taking out Kristoffer Petersen in the box, and the resulting penalty was dispatched by Janssen. Cambuur were furious that their goalkeeper was shown the red card when it was actually Periera who caused the foul, but the referee stood by his decision.
Despite the extra man Utrecht couldn’t find a winner in the final five minutes, with substitute Leonard Nienhuis brilliantly denying Barazite as Cambuur held on. Utrecht stay 10th with the point, while Cambuur remain second bottom.
