Erik ten Hag’s side have remained undefeated in their opening five Eredivisie games at the Stadion Galgenwaard, but that record seemed under threat on Sunday when FC Twente took the lead. After 18 minutes Thomas Agyepong cut in from the right before firing a low shot past Robbin Ruiter for his first goal since joining the club.
However Timo Letschert equalised just before the half hour mark, smashing the ball in from close range after a Yassin Ayoub corner, and nine minutes later Joel Drommel diverted Nacer Barazite’s cross into his own net to give Utrecht the lead. That lead lasted only two minutes though before Hakim Ziyech smashed Jari Oosterwijk’s lay-off past Ruiter via a deflection.
In the second half Utrecht regained the lead when Bart Ramselaar found Nacer Barazite in the box and the striker lifted the ball over Ruiter, and on 88 minutes the home side sealed the win from the penalty spot after a foul by Oosterwijk, with Haller converting.
Utrecht remain ninth, but are now only one point off sixth, while Twente drop to fifteenth.
