Having started their season thanks to the Europa League play-offs, Utrecht looked fitter from the start of the match and took the lead on 15 minutes. Cyriel Dessers netting his first Eredivisie goal on the rebound after Gyrano Kerk’s ferocious strike crashed off the bar. He did look in an offside position but the goal stood.
The visitors remained in control but had to wait until the 54th minute to add a second with Sander van de Streek rising to head in Urby Emanuelson’s cross.
ADO Den Haag showed some signs of life after the second goal but failed to take their chances and with ten minutes left Utrecht sealed their first win of the season. Dessers raced onto a fine through ball by Zakaria Labyad before calmly slotting in his second of the match.
A poor start to the campaign for ADO Den Haag, but Utrecht are off to a flyer and their new signings are already impressing. Erik ten Hag’s side look on their way to another top four challenge.
