Utrecht have confirmed the signing of Lukas Görtler from Kaiserslautern on a three-year deal.

The injury suffered by Simon Makienok has forced Utrecht to look for another striker, which was expected to be Heerenveen’s Henk Veerman. However, negotiations with the Frisian’s broke down, and Utrecht have instead opted for Görtler.

The 23-year-old has now signed a three-year deal with Erik ten Hag telling the Utrecht website that the forward has been in their interest for a few years.

He said, “We are delighted that we have been able to pick Lukas away at 1. FC Kaiserslautern. We have been watching him for a couple of years.

“The striker knows our way of thinking and looks forward to winning with FC Utrecht.”

Görtler moved from FC Eintracht Bamberg to Bayern Munich in 2014 but only appeared for their B team. He has been with Kaiserslautern since 2015, scoring twice in 43 matches.
