Utrecht overcame FC Emmen 3-1 on Saturday evening to move up to 5th in the table.

Emmen won both games with Utrecht last season so headed to the Galgenwaard Stadium with confidence despite a poor start to their campaign.

The visitors went close to opening the scoring in the 27th minute but Michael de Leeuw’s header came back off the post.

Ten minutes later, Utrecht made it 1-0 as Adrian Dalmau guided a header from a corner into the net. In the 54th minute, it was 2-0 for the hosts with Gyrano Kerk also heading in a corner.

Just before the hour mark, Michael de Leeuw made it 2-1 with a calm finish when played through one-on-one with Maarten Paes.

Emmen could not push for an equaliser though and eventually in stoppage time, Utrecht made sure of the victory with Jean-Christophe Bahebeck finishing off a swift counter to make it 3-1.

Utrecht move up to fifth with the victory while Emmen are 16th.
