Utrecht got their first league win of the season with a 3-1 victory over RKC Waalwijk.

The home side went into the tie as clear favourites but they had to wait until the 40th minute to find the opener as Mimoun Mahi tapped in Django Warmerdam’s cross.

On the hour mark, RKC Waalwijk equalised through Vitalie Damascan, who came on as a first-half substitute for Finn Stokkers.

Gyrano Kerk, who is being heavily linked with a move to Leeds United, restored Utrecht’s lead at the near post in the 74th minute. Sander van de Streek then wrapped up the win late on from a corner.

The win moves Utrecht up to 7th, while RKC sit bottom and without a point.
