Marco van Basten cannot understand why Brian Brobbey and Julian Rijkhoff have decided to leave Ajax to go abroad before breaking into the first-team.

Earlier this week, Ajax confirmed that Brobbey would leave in the summer for free after refusing to sign a new deal, while 16-year-old Julian Rijkhoff has joined Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking on Rondo for Ziggo Sport, Van Basten believes both players are making a big mistake.

He said, “I think that is very bad management. The Eredivisie is the best competition for these types of players. If you can play in the Eredivisie for the first two or three years of your career, that is the best for your development. Then you can move on to the big countries.

“You are actually leaving because you cannot handle the confrontation in your own country. If you are really good, then you play in the first? You can say that Ajax, PSV, or Feyenoord already has a strong striker, but if you don’t gain from that, do you have nothing to look for abroad? “

Van Basten can’t think of an example of a player that is a success after leaving early, “They all lose track! It is really unwise, but they all opt for the money and the beautiful story. But the best education for a young football player is close to you and that is in the Eredivisie.”
