Koeman’s name has been put forward as a potential successor to Ernesto Valverde should Barcelona decide to sack their current coach.
Speaking as a guest on Tafel van Kees on Fox Sports, van Basten said, “If I were Ronald, I could understand. FC Barcelona, such a big club with so many possibilities, his club, he played football there for years. Being a national coach is also great, but very limited: it’s just a few times a year. “
Louis van Gaal on the other hand believes Koeman should stay and complete his job with the national team, “I think he cannot make that switch because he has started his project with full conviction at the Dutch national team. He can do this after a cycle, but not in the meantime: then you are unbelievable”
