PSV Eindhoven boss Mark van Bommel has spoken about the possibility of free-agent Ibrahim Afellay returning to the club.

The 32-year-old had his contract with Stoke City terminated in January and is now free to move to another club.

Van Bommel was asked about the possibility of a return to PSV for the Dutch international and he confirmed that he is in regular contact with the midfielder.

He said, “Ibi is a child of the club, but we did not talk about him as an asset.

“The news that he has terminated his contract has been given to everyone, whether he is a PSV player, I have not thought about it yet, but Ibi is a fantastic player, who started here, has had successes, went to Barcelona. and unfortunately had to deal with injuries, now he is almost fit again. “

“I do have contact with him, but that is not because we are talking about it now, but we do have contact more often.”

Afellay started his career with PSV Eindhoven and made 217 appearances for the club before departing for Barcelona in 2011. He has since had spells with Olympiakos and Schalke before moving to Stoke City in 2015.
