KNVB technical director Hans van Breukelen has urged Louis van Gaal to return to some role with the Dutch national team even if it puts him out of a job.

Since Danny Blind was sacked as the Oranje head coach last month, Louis van Gaal’s name has been top of the list of candidates to replace him. However, the former Manchester United and Netherlands boss is said to be eyed for a CEO position instead with the KNVB, which is restructuring its organisation.
Speaking to De Stentor, Hans van Breukelen, current technical director with the KNVB, is clear that van Gaal needs to be given any position he wants.
He said, “Louis should have a function within the KNVB.
“He may return as a coach or consultant. Even if it is at the expense of my own job then i say: “Go ahead, Louis.” Because we need him.”
He is definitely right. Van Gaal is needed to “clean up” the mess.
Also, every Dutch player should fire their agent! They convince them that the big money move is in their best interest when in fact they are one, maybe two, years away from ‘graduating’ the Eredivisie. Also, hire a coach without a preference! Someone that will not pick from just PSV, Feyenoord or just Ajax! Bring them up right and choose the right man for the job not someone who has their supporters as a priority!
I’m not really sure about Van Gaal.
Are we just going to get more of the same? Ie, too much circulating the ball through the CBs and GK with very little confidence to have a go at the opposition defence.
Because this is what we have been getting from from the NT and exactly the same sort of stuff from Man U when Van Gaal was in charge.
The Van Gaal/Dutch way of the last 10 years only works with highly skilled confident players. Yes, if we had Sneijder (a younger full 90 min one) and Robben joined by Bergkamp, Gullit, Van Basten and Overmars, then no problem.
But we need someone who will get the best from what we have and that requires a different approach than what Van Gaal offers.
Having said that, I disagree that if not Van Gaal then KNVB should look overseas. Rubbish. Are all the other potential coaches locked into this style of football?
There are a lot of coaches in the Netherlands and although have similar styles most of them are still young and want to coach club teams and not the few friendlies and a few international tournaments. Koeman appears bitter as well, they may have ruined any chance with him. There are a few attack minded coaches in the Eredivisie that may be perfect and a lot named in other articles. As for van Gaal’s slow paced working up from the back, the patient game is frustrating for other teams and with the team he had in 2014 World Cup, it was probably the best approach.
Yes, but Van Gaal’s 2014 and Man U strategies are not whats needed now. If Van Gaal is chosen and he goes this way the Oranje are dead in the water.
Also, Koeman is bitter but justifiably so.
