Brazilian defender Eric Botteghin scored the winner in the 82nd minute to keep Feyenoord at the top of the table with six wins out of six. The club last won the title in 1999 but van Bronckhorst believes his side can go all the way this season.
He told NOS after the win, ”I am extremely satisfied with my team in a week where we played 3 games for the first time against ADO Den Haag, Manchester United & PSV Eindhoven and to have obtained 3 victories is fantastic. Although We can still improve.
”This is first and foremost a team effort but our goalkeeper Brad Jones made crucial games throughout the game and Eric Botteghin played well and scored . That is our strength that every week someone from our squad will put in a standout performance. I must say the the basis of our fantastic results in recent weeks is our team spirit.
” I am not amazed by the progression that Feyenoord have made in recent weeks and that is testament to the players and technical staff . We are playing in a way where we are collecting points . I congratulated the players on a fine victory today and let them know that it does not stop here and that we must continue to improve in order to be successful. If you start the season in the way that we have done and we manage to continue in this vein then we are definitely title challengers”.
