Feyenoord currently sit top of the Eredivisie five points clear of Ajax, and today head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst extended his contract with the Rotterdam club until the end of the 2018-19 season.
Speaking on Feyenoord’s official website Van Bronckhorst said ” We are in a very good period, there are good players here and we put a lot of energy and effort in as a collective and we will continue to do so.” The ex-Dutch International continued “I’m glad I can continue the work at Feyenoord. It feels really good to be able to stay here as head coach and gain the trust of the club.”
Feyenoord technical director Martin van Geel praised the 41-year-old coach, “Eighteen months ago we entered this process with someone who did not have a great experience as head coach. But we saw the potential for Giovanni, and that he had qualities that you need to be head coach of Feyenoord. We are very happy that this has been reflected in results and performances. Last season we were third and won the KNVB Cup, but you could see that the team just got better and better. We want to continue our progress.”
Feyenoord resume the push for their first Eredivisie title since 1998-99 season this weekend with an away trip to Roda JC.
