Steven Berghuis had the best chance of the first half but two goals early in the second half and then a red card for Nicolai Jorgensen saw Ajax ease to a 2-0 win.

van Bronckhorst said, ”We were in this game today for 50 minutes and then we gave the game away. The game changed after the red card for Nicolai Jorgensen.

”During the first half I thought we had the best chances and we knew that we had to be compact against Ajax.

”We wanted to continue that in the second half. But we conceded two goals in five minutes.

”When a player already has a yellow card they do not have to play with the handbrake on but they must be smart”.

”We must carry on. The gap between us and Ajax and PSV has got bigger and that will be difficult for us. We have to slowly fight our way up the league and fight to win the KNVB Cup.”
