Sepp van den Berg will be out for months after suffering a ligament injury in Schalke 04’s 3-2 loss to Augsburg on Sunday.

The 20-year-old joined Schalke on loan from Liverpool this summer and he had been a regular since that, making four Bundesliga appearances.

On Sunday, Van den Berg left the field on a stretcher as Schalke lost to Augsburg and the defender was taken to hospital. They discovered that the versatile centre-back had suffered ligament damage.

Van den Berg will no longer play in this calendar year.
