AZ went into the second leg of their Europa League clash already 4-1 down and the Alkmaar’s side’s humiliation was furthered on Thursday as they let in seven goals to set a record as the biggest defeat for a Dutch side in Europe.

Afterwards, van den Brom said, ”As a team we have failed and we have let each other down and we did not show the determination to help one another not just in terms of defending but also attacking too.

”When you play like that you will be severely punished by a team of Lyon’s quality. I do not want to mention the word crisis but if you lose a game 7-1 you could very well say that we are close to a crisis.”
