Jan-Arie van der Heijden has told De Telegraaf that he wants to depart Feyenoord this summer.

The 31-year-old is not a first-choice centre-back for Jaap Stam and is not happy with the prospect of sitting on the bench this season.

He told De Telegraaf, “The trainer chooses other players. That is his right. But I know my own qualities and I don’t think I should sit on the bench with that. Even at Feyenoord.”

Van der Heijden’s contract with Feyenoord expires at the end of next season and he expects the club to allow him to leave. A foreign adventure is preferred.

Feyenoord signed the defender from Vitesse in 2015. Before that he played for Ajax and Willem II.
