The centre-back signed for Swansea City back in 2016 from Ajax and has since made 125 appearances for the club.
Van der Hoorn’s contract expired this summer and the Dutchman decided not to renew.
On the club’s website, he said, “Swansea will always be a special place for me. It was the first time that I went abroad in my career. My son was born here, so this will always be special for me and my family. I will be back.
“I can’t believe four years passed so quickly. I remember special moments, my first game, first goal, first game as captain … All those things you remember in your career.”
Van der Hoorn will now await for offers but he recently told AD that he was hoping to make a step up, “Swansea feels like home to me after so many years, but it’s also an attractive option to play in another big league. There is interest and I’m going to sort that out after the playoffs,”
