Willem II have presented former Groningen boss Edwin van de looi as their new head coach.

van de looiThe Tilburg club escaped relegation on Sunday after a win over NAC Breda, which was the final tie under the leadership of Jurgen Streppel, who leaves for Heerenveen. Willem II have now announced that Edwin van de Looi has signed a two-year deal on Monday to take charge. The 44-year-old left Groningen at the end of the season after three years in charge of the club.

Willem II CEO Berry van Gool welcomed the arrival of Van de Looi. “We welcome the arrival of Erwin. The conversations we had were very good.Erwin is a young coach who has achieved great results with FC Groningen.  We look forward to working with Erwin in the new Eredivisie season. “

Van de Looi himself said, “After fourteen great years at FC Groningen I was ready for a new challenge. I found it at Willem II. I had a good feeling in the talks with the club. Willem II is a beautiful traditional club and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
